Kanahooka man sentenced for possessing child abuse material
60-year-old pleaded guilty to having child abuse material discovered during baggage screening.
A 60-year-old Kanahooka man was sentenced to 14 months jail for having child abuse material. Border Force officers found files on his phone during baggage screening.
The examination took place at Sydney International Airport in January after he returned from the Philippines. Police then sent the case to their Child Exploitation and Internet Unit.
A later search of his home found a USB drive and memory card with more material. The judge said his crimes were among the worst cases the local court could handle.
He got an eight-month non-parole period on two counts. He also got a three-year community corrections order for the third charge.
