Woman found dead after police arrest man with knife in NSW
A woman in her 70s was found dead and a 72-year-old man armed with a knife was arrested.
Police responded to reports of an assault at a home in Congarinni on Thursday morning and found a woman in her 70s already dead. A 72-year-old man armed with a knife confronted officers, sparking a struggle before his arrest.
The 72-year-old man sustained multiple injuries believed to be self-inflicted and was taken to hospital under police guard. The woman was assessed by paramedics and declared dead at the scene.
A crime scene has been established and investigations into the circumstances are underway. Congarinni is about 25 kilometres southwest of Nambucca Heads on the NSW Mid-North Coast.
