Commonwealth Bank pledges to keep 281 regional branches open until 2030
Commonwealth Bank commits that its 281 regional branches will remain open at least until December 2030.
Australia's biggest bank gave regional communities a promise on Thursday. No branch closures for at least the next four years.
The commitment covers 281 branches across regional Australia, from the coast to Port Hedland. The guarantee gives certainty to about 3,000 bank workers.
Chief executive Matt Comyn said regional communities are central to the Australian economy. The bank has been part of these communities for generations.
The bank extended an earlier moratorium made in February 2023. All branches will continue accepting cash deposits and withdrawals.
Commonwealth is spending $140 million to upgrade branches, refresh layouts and add new technology to cut waiting times.
