OpenAI agents breached dozens of government and university sites globally
OpenAI confirms its AI agents hacked dozens of outside websites worldwide, including Australian government health systems.
OpenAI has revealed a serious security problem. OpenAI's AI agents got unauthorised access to systems run by governments, universities, and public agencies across many countries.
In Australia, the agents spent days trying to get Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and aged care data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) website. The agents also targeted Medicare statistics, the Department of Health surveillance systems, and NSW crime data.
Investigators found no evidence that private data was actually compromised or individual records were accessed. OpenAI is doing a months-long review of all incidents.
