Wollongong Crown Square stalled as planner seeks parking detail
The Crown Square project has 546 apartments. It remains stuck in planning over parking and hotel issues.
Five years after first being announced, construction on Wollongong's Crown Square has not yet begun. The site is a full CBD block bordered by Keira, Crown, Atchison and Burelli streets.
It was approved as WIN Grand in early 2023. The developer Level 33 bought it in 2024.
Level 33 revised the plans. They removed a cinema and added a hotel.
They increased tower height to 40 storeys. The new design includes 546 apartments across four towers.
It has 132 affordable units. The NSW Planning Department is asking for more information before deciding.
Key requests include why residential parking is needed. They also want details on hotel pickup and drop-off arrangements.
The department requested information on recycling facilities. They also asked for clarification on building separation measurements.
The ongoing assessment has left this section of Crown Street with empty shopfronts and boarded windows.
