BYD launches Atto 8 with nine-minute ultra-fast charging in Europe
BYD's Atto 8 charges from 10 to 97 per cent in just nine minutes using flash-charging technology.
BYD revealed the Atto 8 this week at the Paris Motor Show, an electric version of the Sealion 8 plug-in hybrid that launched in Australia earlier this year. The Atto 8's standout feature is flash-charging: the large SUV goes from 10 per cent battery to 97 per cent in just nine minutes, using up to 1500kW of power.
Just five minutes alone adds 60 per cent charge. Even in severe cold, the system delivers 20 to 97 per cent in 12 minutes.
The base front-drive Atto 8 has 340kW, 115kWh battery, and 652km range, while the top all-wheel-drive version produces 570kW and sprints 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds. BYD's Australian arm told CarsGuide no immediate plans exist to bring the EV here; the Sealion 8 PHEV (starting at $56,990) remains the range-topper for now.

Why it mattersFlash-charging technology could make electric cars far more practical for long drives by slashing charge time to minutes, potentially converting hesitant buyers if it rolls out widely.
AustraliaAustralians familiar with the Sealion 8 PHEV won't see the full EV version, but the flash-charging breakthrough suggests faster-charging EVs may eventually arrive in the local market.
