Leapmotor expands Australian lineup as rivals clear excess stock
Leapmotor's boss says rival brands are clearing surplus inventory as Australia becomes a dumping ground.
Leapmotor has launched four models in Australia since 2024. The company plans a three-row SUV next.
It also plans a sporty hatchback variant. The Chinese brand now sits in three of the country's top-five car segments.
Leapmotor's Andy Hoang told CarExpert that some rivals are simply clearing excess supply from elsewhere in the world. They're betting Australian buyers won't notice.
"We want to make sure that everything we bring here fits the needs and taste of Australian customers," he said. Hoang singled out brands that have rapidly expanded their lineups.
MG jumped from three models in 2022 to 14 today. BYD went from one to 12 in four years.
Leapmotor says it manages inventory tightly. It isn't drowning in hand-me-downs from head office.
