Australia braces for dangerous bushfire summer
Hot, dry conditions across Australia this summer are expected to bring dangerous bushfires despite a large firefighting fleet.
Fire authorities warn Australians to prepare now for a dangerous summer ahead as hot, dry conditions take hold. Emergency Management Minister Kristy McBain inspected approximately 170 aircraft positioned nationwide to fight bushfires.
The fleet includes a C-130 air tanker carrying 15,000 litres of retardant, a Cessna Citation for supervision, and helicopters for sling operations. NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Trent Curtin said communities will face threats in various parts of the country.
Officials warned that even this large fleet may not be enough to protect some communities. Australians are urged to prepare homes now, download warning apps, and check local fire service websites for advice.
