Kings fall to 36ers as Davis and Cotton's rivalry explodes
Sydney Kings lost 84-78 to Adelaide 36ers on Sunday after Kendric Davis and Bryce Cotton erupted in a chest-bump and nose-to-nose confrontation.
Kendric Davis and Bryce Cotton ignited after just 26.3 seconds. Cotton, a six-time NBL MVP, and Davis collided with a chest bump and came nose to nose, drawing flagrant fouls from each.
After the game drew tight, Davis pointed to his championship emblem from last season's grand final. Cotton responded by holding up six fingers, one for each MVP award.
The 36ers broke a three-game losing streak, winning 84-78 at the Afterpay Arena. Cotton finished with 17 points and eight assists.
Davis had just 16 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Kings coach Brian Goorjian said the intensity showed how much the teams care about each other.
Adelaide coach Trevor Gleeson disagreed, saying the physicality was unnecessary.
