Canberra approves 246-home Dickson development despite community concerns

Canberra's planning authority approved a two-building development with 246 residences at the Dickson Tradies Club site. The community had significant objections.

The development includes a six-storey building and a 13-storey tower. Residents and the Dickson Residents Group had concerns about overshadowing and wind tunnels affecting pedestrians.

The Dickson Residents Group also worried about losing the Dickson Squash Club, which operated on the site for nearly 60 years. Some local businesses welcome more residents.

Others worry about construction disruption. The Dickson Residents Group says the planning authority did not fully address their concerns in public consultation.

The planning authority gave approval for the first stage last week.
