Neil Crompton breaks silence on Supercars axing after 25 years
Commentator Neil Crompton says the remark that stung most from departing Supercars boss was he needed 'a proper caller' after 25 years.
Neil Crompton, who commentated Supercars since 2000, has revealed the remarks that led to his sudden exit after the 2025 season. Crompton and co-caller Mark Skaife were ousted without a chance to farewell fans.
Supercars boss James Warburton told him the research showed he had to go because he was old, tired, conflicted and his language was dated. Crompton said he could accept those criticisms, but the line "we need a proper caller" insulted him most.
He said he would have preferred a gradual wind-down rather than an immediate exit. Warburton left the role himself 12 months later.
Crompton declined a farewell lap at Bathurst 1000 this month and has since taken a consulting role with Walkinshaw and continues to run the Toyota GR86 series.
