Survey reveals housing and healthcare gaps as Southern NSW and ACT age
A survey found most residents in Southern NSW and the ACT struggle with housing and healthcare as the region ages.
Southern NSW and the ACT have more older people than Australia as a whole, spread across larger areas with strong retirement migration. A survey of 217 people found 56 percent said housing affordability was a major problem, and half said accessing healthcare and aged care was difficult.
Transport gaps affected 37 percent and staff shortages affected 30 percent. On November 25, a roundtable at the University of Canberra will bring government, community and business leaders together to find solutions.
The discussion will go beyond aged care alone to cover housing, health, transport, workforce and community support.
