Teen charged after car hits Knights fans at Newcastle roundabout

Indika Bambrick Samarasinghe, 18, charged with dangerous driving after car struck Newcastle Knights supporters, injuring ten people.

Police arrested an 18-year-old man at the scene. A car ploughed into a crowd at a roundabout on Newcastle Link Road, Wallsend, at about 9:30am on October 3.

Indika Bambrick Samarasinghe was charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury, three counts of careless driving causing serious injury, and three counts of causing injury by misconduct.

Ten people went to John Hunter Hospital. A five-year-old girl was in critical but stable condition.

A 67-year-old man was in serious but stable condition. Four others stayed in hospital in stable condition.

Three men and a woman were released. His P1 provisional licence was suspended.

The vehicle was seized for forensic testing. He will appear in Newcastle Bail Court today.
