Terror conviction upheld for Omar Saghir on appeal
Omar Saghir's appeal to overturn his terror conviction for posting extremist videos was dismissed by the court.
Omar Saghir posted eight video speeches to Facebook between 2019 and 2020, calling on viewers to attack enemies of Islam. Six of the videos were found to have encouraged violence against others.
In August last year, a Brisbane court found him guilty of six counts of intentionally advocating terrorism. Saghir appealed, arguing the trial judge had failed in jury directions, but the court rejected that claim this week.
The judges found the trial was fair and the verdict sound. Saghir was also convicted of helping fund a fighter who travelled to Syria in 2013.
Saghir is serving two and a half years in prison for the terror charges.
