Two charged in Marco Tapia's death will stay in custody
Omar Mohamed and Vaifaalie Tuafuti, charged with the murder of 23-year-old engineering student Marco Tapia, remain jailed with no bail application.
Marco Tapia was shot during a home invasion in Sydney's south-west on 1 September in Glen Alpine, but he was not the intended target. NSW Police allege two men, Mohamed (23) and Tuafuti (22), were hired by an organised crime group to carry out violent acts.
Omar Mohamed and Vaifaalie Tuafuti were arrested in Junee and charged with murder, two counts of aggravated break and enter with a weapon, and possessing an unauthorised firearm. Omar Mohamed and Vaifaalie Tuafuti made no bail application in court.
A 16-year-old boy was also arrested and charged but cannot be named. Police say Tapia had no involvement in organised crime.
His mother, Claudia Tapia, said her son was a biomedical engineering student, Christian youth leader, and volunteer whose death 'must never become his identity'.
