Victoria faces unusual 100mm rainfall surge in just three days
Victoria will receive about 100 millimetres of rain over three days from Thursday. That's roughly a month's total rainfall in just days.
Melbourne and Victoria will receive very heavy rain over three days starting Thursday about 1pm. Thursday will bring a maximum of 40 millimetres, Friday another 35 millimetres, and Saturday 25 millimetres.
The total will be about 100 millimetres. October's average rainfall is about 66 millimetres, so this event delivers a month's worth in just days.
The Bureau of Meteorology says this hard, fast dumping of rain is 'more on the unusual side' for spring. The heavy downpour will hit western suburbs around Geelong and Avalon first.
It will push into Melbourne in the afternoon and evening. Families heading camping or hiking during school holidays should check weather warnings.
