Ballarat region towns face flood risk as 60mm-plus rain forecast
A flood watch covers towns north of Ballarat as heavy rain could exceed 60mm over two days.
The State Emergency Service has issued a flood watch for the Loddon River and towns north of Ballarat, including Clunes, Creswick and Daylesford. Heavy rain is forecast from Thursday afternoon, with some areas receiving more than 60 millimetres over Thursday and Friday.
Ballarat itself will see 15 to 35mm on Thursday and 8 to 30mm on Friday. Temperatures are dropping from 19 degrees Thursday to 14 degrees Friday.
Because catchments are moderately wet, they may respond quickly to the rainfall. The warning says areas around rivers and streams may be flooded, local roads may close, and low bridges may be underwater.
