The Holei Sea Arch on Hawaii's Big Island has collapsed into the Pacific Ocean. The arch stood more than 27 metres high for about 550 years as a popular site.
The collapse was not unexpected. Park officials say the area remains unstable and very dangerous.
Photos on social media show visitors ignoring closed signs and entering the site. They went in despite warnings about the great risk of falling and drowning.
The park temporarily closed during Tropical Storm Nolo around the time the arch gave way.
