Mayor and husband refresh Holbrook's heritage bakery
Greater Hume mayor Lea Parker and husband Russell bought the Holbrook Bakery. The previous owners had run it for almost 20 years.
The Holbrook Bakery opened in 1899. New owners Lea and Russell Parker gave it a complete makeover: baby blue paint, new counter and flooring.
The work took just over a week. The bakery's old photos and memorabilia still hang on the walls.
Items from their childhood are back on the menu, cream horns and matchsticks. Russell Parker is a fifth-generation Holbrook farmer.
He said visitors come off the Hume Highway looking for coffee and a sit-down experience, not fast food. The couple hope the refresh will bring more customers.
This should help Holbrook's economy.
