Canberra volunteers give 20 rescued dogs a fresh start
About 20 of 75 dogs rescued from a Sydney house will be rehomed through Canberra foster families.
Seventy-five dogs were found living in one Sydney house when their owner suffered a heart attack. The animals arrived at a vet clinic in very poor condition, with their fur so matted it had to be clipped while they slept.
Volunteers from Canberra's Denise at Paws rescue group took on about 20 of the tiny dogs. Most weigh around 3 kilos and are believed to be oodle breeds.
The rescued dogs had little contact with the outside world. They had no vet care before arriving in Canberra.
Foster families will help them learn to be normal dogs. They will teach them to be around people.
They will prepare them for adoption. The group survives on donations.
It receives no government funding.
