Canberra arts group overhauls crime-ridden Bible Lane with murals and lights
A Canberra arts hub is revamping Bible Lane, a neglected laneway plagued by assaults, with murals, lighting, and waste management.
Bible Lane, a small laneway in Civic, has been neglected for more than a decade. The laneway earned a dark reputation for multiple violent assaults.
Now Blank Cultural Platform and local graffiti artists are transforming it with murals, improved street lighting, and better waste management. About 30 graffiti artists will paint murals this weekend.
The laneway's darkness and overflowing bins have made it unsafe and unattractive. Blank aims to add street lighting within a year.
A bin shed is likely to be built. The project is funded mainly through a pay-what-you-want event at Blank's rooftop venue and support from building owners.
