Starving Akita left to die recovers and finds forever home
Kuma recovered from severe starvation and found a forever home after RSPCA rescue.
When Kuma's owner died in their house without anyone knowing, the large Akita was left alone in the backyard with no food. Days turned into weeks.
Kuma slowly starved until her ribs pushed through her skin. When RSPCA ACT finally found her, staff had rarely seen malnutrition so severe.
Lee Gamble, the kennels team leader, said "When I touched her, I could feel every bone." Three months of veterinary care and careful feeding brought Kuma back to a healthy 40 kilograms.
Jordan Gallagher adopted her in July and Kuma discovered a real life. Now she runs, plays with a ball and gets excited when the morning alarm goes off because she knows a walk is coming.
For a dog that once had no energy to move, joy is her new normal.
