Torrential rain and thunderstorms to hit southeastern Australia this weekend
Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected across southeastern Australia from Friday through Sunday.
Melbourne was battered by torrential rain Thursday, with flash flooding forcing SES crews to rescue people from cars caught in the deluge. The Bureau of Meteorology warned more torrential rain and flash flooding expected to hit larger parts of southeast Australia over the next few days.
Melbourne's CBD recorded up to 60mm Thursday, with Ballarat and La Trobe Valley receiving 20 to 50mm. Spring thunderstorms are expected to hit parts of the ACT and NSW on Friday and Saturday afternoons, bringing 30 to 60mm through the Illawarra.
Eastern Victoria and the Otway Coast could receive 50 to 100mm. Showers are expected to linger through Gippsland, ACT and NSW south coast on Sunday.
