Victoria set for up to 150mm rain as slow-moving storm system approaches
Storm brings up to 150mm rain to parts of Victoria, matching one to two months of rainfall or possibly three.
A slow-moving low pressure system combining a trough from South Australia and a weather front from the Great Australian Bight will drench south-eastern Australia from Thursday. Most of Victoria could expect 25 to 50mm.
Parts of Gippsland and the central, eastern and Otway ranges could see 100 to 150mm, equal to one to two months of rainfall or possibly three. Melbourne will be quite wet with 30 to 50mm expected over coming days.
Flood watches are in place across parts of Gippsland, north-east and central Victoria. Damaging winds are also possible in coastal areas on Friday and Saturday.
Canberra and Sydney could see storms and about 50mm on Saturday, though conditions should clear in time for the NRL grand final on Sunday.
