Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young backs military aid for Ukraine if needed
Shoebridge said direct military help needs UN Security Council approval, which Russia's veto makes effectively impossible.
The Greens are split on whether Australia should send tanks, vehicles and ammo to Ukraine. On Monday, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said she supports military aid for Kyiv if it is needed.
Hanson-Young's view differs from that of party leader David Shoebridge, who is in his first sitting week as leader. On October 3, Shoebridge told Nine newspapers Australia should not give Ukraine direct military help without UN Security Council approval.
Such help should only come under the UN Security Council's authority. Russia's veto power on the Security Council makes that approval effectively impossible.
Hanson-Young thinks Shoebridge would have put it differently if asked again.
