BioWare shutting down, Mass Effect 5 cancelled as EA cuts 400 jobs
Electronic Arts is shutting down BioWare and cancelling Mass Effect 5 as part of layoffs affecting 400 staff across the company.
Electronic Arts announced it is shutting down BioWare, the studio that made Mass Effect and Dragon Age. The company is also stopping Mass Effect 5 as part of job cuts affecting 400 people overall.
About 50 of those losing jobs work at BioWare. For years, BioWare had teased Mass Effect 5.
The game would have been set hundreds of years after Mass Effect 3 in the original Milky Way. BioWare's recent games Anthem and Dragon Age: The Veilguard both failed to sell well.
The closure comes after EA went private in a buyout earlier this year. Amazon was developing a live-action Mass Effect series too.
It is unclear what happens to it now.
