Weatherlake returns to Albury roots to buy Dean Street food store
Linda Weatherlake and Chris Davis bought the Albury specialty food store Season To Taste, a homecoming for Weatherlake after years in Melbourne.
Linda Weatherlake left Albury High School for a marketing career in Melbourne, but the pull of home stayed strong. Now she and partner Chris Davis, a plumber, have bought Season To Taste on Dean Street.
The specialty food store has been her favourite for two decades. Barry and Carol Young, who owned it for a decade, are now stepping back.
The store thrived after COVID restrictions lifted. Locals cooking and baking at home drove strong demand for pasta and bread-making equipment.
Weatherlake kept a handwritten recipe for turtle bean soup from late food authority Kim Caunt. Caunt taught her in her kitchen fifteen years ago.
That recipe is now framed on the store's walls. As they prepare to shift their focus to their Wodonga-based brewing business, the previous owners are confident in handing over to owners with deep local roots.
