Toyota RAV4's crash-test rating could unlock fleet sales
Toyota RAV4 lacks ANCAP safety rating. European crash-testing by end of 2026 could unlock fleet sales.
The Toyota RAV4 arrived in Australia in April 2026. It topped monthly sales charts in April, July and August.
The RAV4 remains without an ANCAP safety rating. Many fleet buyers cannot purchase vehicles without a five-star rating under workplace health and safety policies.
These fleet and government buyers represent 39.5 per cent of RAV4 sales. Toyota's sales boss John Pappas told CarExpert that a European crash-test is scheduled for the end of this year.
He anticipates a five-star ANCAP result. The RAV4 will receive running safety upgrades starting this month to help achieve that rating.
Rivals including the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson and Mitsubishi Outlander all carry current five-star ratings.

Why it mattersFleet sales are a major income stream for Toyota. A five-star rating unlocks customers who cannot buy the RAV4 despite strong monthly sales.
AustraliaAustralian fleet buyers have delayed or cancelled RAV4 orders due to the missing rating; a five-star result will likely boost local vehicle availability and sales across government, business and rental sectors.
