Woman faces third attempted poisoning charge after forensic analysis
A South Launceston woman now faces three counts of attempted poisoning with arsenic trioxide instead of two.
A woman accused of poisoning someone with arsenic trioxide is facing a third charge following forensic testing. The South Launceston woman was initially charged with two counts in mid-August 2026.
The woman appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Thursday via video from custody. Police now allege she attempted to poison the same person on three separate occasions.
These dates were July 3, July 31, and August 7. The woman's lawyer said he had not been notified of the new charge.
He also had not received disclosure documents from police. The magistrate remanded her in custody and adjourned the matter to October 16.
A non-publication order prevents the woman's identification. The court heard the new complaint was filed September 21.
An email about it was sent to the lawyer. However, he said it was the first he had heard of it.
