Russia fires 70 missiles at Ukraine, kills at least 25

Russia launched 70 missiles and dozens of drones at Ukraine overnight. At least 25 people died, including five children in Pryluky.

A Russian missile struck a five-storey apartment block in Pryluky. The city is in Ukraine's northern Chernihiv region.

President Zelenskiy said 19 people died at that building. Five of them were children.

Throughout the country, he said 25 people were killed in total. About 100 more were injured.

Rescue workers used excavators and shovels to dig through rubble. They pulled 15 survivors from the collapsed building.

Russia also struck the capital Kyiv. It also hit the central cities of Oleksandria and Kremenchuk.

Ukraine's air force shot down about 80 per cent of the drones Russia launched. That was 46 jet-powered drones in all.

The strikes damaged factories and power systems across multiple regions.

Why it mattersThe attacks show Russia still has the military ability to strike many Ukrainian cities. The air defences cannot stop all the attacks. This highlights how the conflict continues to harm civilians.

AustraliaAustralia has Ukrainian expats and communities following developments in the war; the strikes underscore the ongoing humanitarian crisis affecting displaced Ukrainians seeking refuge abroad.
