Goulburn teacher's handmade puppets, stored for years, are back in class
The puppets were made to draw small children into drama and literacy in Goulburn.
For years after the teacher died, seven boxes of handmade puppets and scripts sat at the Lieder Theatre. A theatre company volunteer, Greg Angus, took the boxes to school and put the puppets to work.
Jenni Barringer, an infants school teacher in Goulburn, and her mother Pat made the puppets. Greg Angus asked on Facebook who made them, and Goulburn educators and artists shared memories of a tall, inquisitive teacher.
Jenni Barringer was head of infants at Goulburn North Primary School. Jenni died of cancer in 1996, aged 51, and her ashes are kept inside St Saviour's organ.
Storage space is at a premium at schools, and Greg is looking for a new home for the puppets. The puppets are high quality, and they show how much the mother and daughter cared about learning.
