Melbourne Marathon official vehicle hits runner, organisers launch probe
An official race vehicle hit a female runner in her 30s at Albert Park, seriously injuring her.
Race organisers are investigating after an official race vehicle hit a female competitor in her 30s at Albert Park. The Melbourne Marathon confirmed an official vehicle was involved and said it is running a full review.
Tasmanian runner Dr Nathan Warner, who stopped to help, said the injured runner would need surgery and weeks of recovery. Warner said a passing motorcycle at the event clipped his back as he helped, but he was not hurt.
Whether this was the same crash Warner saw before stopping to help is unclear. A witness, Mark, told 3AW there was not enough room for slower runners and the fast pace car.
