Kipchoge breaks course record at Melbourne in comeback win
The Kenyan legend clocked 2:09:10 to break the course record, two seconds inside the previous mark.
Eliud Kipchoge, 41, won at Melbourne on Sunday in 2 hours 9 minutes 10 seconds. The time was two seconds faster than the previous course record.
Kipchoge's win was his first marathon victory in three years, since Berlin in 2023. The two-time Olympic champion is on a world tour to raise funds for causes he believes in, running marathons on all seven continents over two years.
Melbourne was his third stop after South Africa and Brazil. He broke away inside the final 10 kilometres, then slowed as he entered the MCG to wave to fans.
