Victoria launches first national course in cannabis cultivation
Federation TAFE has enrolled nine students. They are studying Australia's first officially recognised Certificate III in medicinal cannabis cultivation and production.
Ballarat naturopath Jacqui Fernandez is part of the first group starting Australia's first official course in growing medicinal cannabis. The students combine online learning with hands-on training at licensed producer Cannai in the Yarra Valley.
About 80 per cent of medicinal cannabis supplied to Australian patients is imported. The Victorian industry is expected to grow to almost 242,000 patients by 2028.
Victoria is expected to supply 30 to 50 per cent of the nation's cannabis products. The industry is worth about 258 million dollars each year.
It is expected to grow 40 per cent each year for the next five years. Roles available include cultivation technician positions.
