Wagga ratepayers demand answers on $15 billion data centre
CDC Data Centres plans a $15 billion campus. It would cover about 63 hectares. But locals want answers before approval.
Wagga Wagga ratepayers are pushing for proper consultation over a giant data centre proposal next to the town tip. CDC Data Centres is a major Australian operator that has lodged plans for a campus at Gregadoo covering about 63 hectares, roughly 90 AFL football fields.
The campus would have four buildings with about 189,000 square metres of floor space. At full capacity, the facility would need up to 1.4 gigawatts of electricity, making it a major power user.
The project plans up to 384 diesel backup generators and about 6,400 tonnes of diesel storage for emergencies. The NSW Government will make the final decision, not Wagga Council.
CDC says it chose the location for access to power infrastructure and high-speed internet. The company says it is committed to community consultation.
The project could create hundreds of construction jobs and ongoing skilled roles.
