Tassie Hawks Cup ends after 17 years for AFL rebranding
Hawthorn is ending its 17-year-old Tassie Hawks Cup this year. This makes space for AFL Tasmania's expanded focus on the Devils.
The Tassie Hawks Cup crowned high school football champions since 2008. The cup brought the best young players from Tasmania's North, North-West, and South regions together.
These players competed on one of Australia's top grounds. Hawthorn's work with the state government ends after 2027.
The club was asked to stop running this event this year. Hawthorn's head of Tasmanian operations said the club wanted to start a new high school event.
But that chance was not given. The club wants to make this year's final event as strong as it can be.
Sacred Heart won the girls title and St Patrick's College won the boys title.
