Jamie Melham's Cup hopes hang on rival withdrawal
Melham hopes to defend her Melbourne Cup title but needs a rival withdrawal to secure her mount Future History.
Jamie Melham, who won last year's Melbourne Cup on Half Yours, is racing to defend her crown but faces uncertainty over her mount. Future History sits 25th on the order of entry and needs at least one other rival to withdraw to claim a place in the 24-horse field.
Two horses have already been ruled out: Saint George was deemed unfit by vets on Thursday, and The Euphrates' connections reportedly chose not to run. The field will be finalised on Saturday night, with barrier draws at Flemington after the final race on Derby Day.
The Melbourne Cup runs on Tuesday.
