Sydney Swans fight homesickness to keep star Zippy Fish
Rising Star winner Zippy Fish is approaching the end of her rookie contract and has drawn interest from rival clubs.
Sydney coach Colin O'Riordan acknowledged the genuine struggle of interstate players dealing with homesickness, speaking to the future of star youngster Zippy Fish. The soon-to-be uncontracted Swans sensation is approaching at least the end of her initial two-year draftee deal.
Strong rival interest has followed a brilliant start to her AFLW career. O'Riordan, who moved from Ireland to play AFL, said he understands the pull to go home when family and friends are far away.
The club's pitch centres on wrapping support around Fish rather than football alone. O'Riordan said Fish is focused purely on playing week to week and letting the contract questions settle themselves.
The Swans' approach emphasises open conversation, club strategy, and the chance to stay with a team where she feels at home. The 20-year-old has had a brilliant start to her AFLW career and is one of the league's brightest talents.
