New multi-breed cattle EBVs let farmers compare genetics across breeds
Meat & Livestock Australia is rolling out cross-breed genetic comparisons. Joining is voluntary until 2030.
Meat & Livestock Australia is developing ways to compare cattle genetics across different breeds. The system uses genetic and physical data to rank animals.
Producers can benchmark their own genetics and find the best match for their market. Breeds can choose to join or keep their existing Breedplan reviews.
Research breeding values are expected from 2027. Full launch is by 2030.

Why it mattersA single comparison system across breeds gives farmers broader gene pools to choose from. It helps align genetics with market demand. This could lift output and carcase quality.
AustraliaAustralian beef producers will gain access to a wider range of genetic data and can compare animals outside their own breed society, improving breeding decisions and competitiveness.
