Lehrmann trial set for July after months of legal delays
Political staffer Bruce Lehrmann's rape trial provisionally set for July 26 after his lawyer failed to secure a barrister.
Political staffer Bruce Lehrmann's rape trial was provisionally set for July 26 after months of delays. The 31-year-old was due to stand trial Monday in Toowoomba.
He was accused of twice raping a woman in regional Queensland in 2021. But his solicitor said he couldn't secure a barrister.
Judge Dennis Lynch warned both legal teams against further adjournments. He said the matter had 'a long history and it needs to progress'.
Lynch demanded Lehrmann's solicitor name his barrister immediately. Lehrmann was charged in January 2023 and committed to trial in July 2024 following magistrates court hearings.
He has contested the charges through his legal team. The woman said they met at a Toowoomba strip club before going to his friend's house.
