Maitland council approves Largs development despite all 27 resident objections
Maitland City Council approved a disputed 16-unit development at Largs despite all 27 residents opposing it.
All 27 residents who gave feedback during planning opposed or raised concerns about the 16-unit development at 20 Dunmore Road, Largs. Maitland City Council approved it on Tuesday night anyway.
The vote was 7-5, a close result that pushed it to a full council meeting instead of letting staff approve it. Objector Nicholas Percy told the council the development meant significant building up of a site.
It sits between single-storey homes, farmland, a council reserve and a watercourse. Neighbours raised concerns about an internal driveway.
They also worried about the project's size compared to nearby buildings. The application included a 16-lot strata subdivision and two-storey homes behind an existing access road, known as a battle-axe block arrangement.
