TEDxWollongong ditches audience cap for 2027 return after first event sold out
TEDxWollongong is expanding from a sold-out 100-person event to an audience with no cap. The new venue is larger. The event is on May 1, 2027.
TEDxWollongong debuted in March 2026 at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre. It sold out in less than 48 hours with a 100-person cap.
Many people missed out and asked for a larger venue. The 2027 event is on May 1 at the University of Wollongong's Unihall.
Organisers secured a license with no audience cap. The new theme is "current".
It draws inspiration from ocean currents and the currents of energy, industry, ideas and culture shaping Wollongong's future. Speaker applications are now open.
The first event featured 12 talks on topics ranging from offshore wind to romance scams. The format focuses on what TED calls "ideas worth spreading".
It does not strictly follow the theme.
