The Sydney Roosters came back from 12 points down at halftime to beat Newcastle 19-18 in the NRL Grand Final at Stadium Australia on Sunday. Winger Mark Nawaqanitawase scored twice, while halfback Daly Cherry-Evans slotted a crucial field goal with 10 minutes left.
Daly Cherry-Evans' drop goal proved decisive when Newcastle scored with three minutes to play. Cherry-Evans finished his NRL career as the game's oldest premiership winner in 104 years.
The Knights' fairytale run ended after they rose from last year's wooden spoon to seventh on the ladder and reached their first Grand Final in 16 years.
