Big Red Bash ends in 2027 after 13-year run battered by floods
The Big Red Bash is a 13-year outback festival. It closes after 2027 following repeated flooding.
Founder Greg Donovan announced July 2027 will host the Big Red Bash's final event. The festival site in Birdsville is 1,500 kilometres west of Brisbane.
The site flooded this year and remains underwater. Costs have risen, but weather problems drove the decision.
The festival faced challenges in 2023, 2024 and 2026. The final lineup includes Missy Higgins, Jessica Mauboy, The Living End and Shannon Noll.
Small business owners in Birdsville warn the loss will be devastating. The festival brings tourists to remote towns across outback Queensland.
