Eva Marie Saint, Hollywood golden age star, dies at 102
Oscar-winning actress famed for Hitchcock thrillers died aged 102 of natural causes.
Eva Marie Saint died at her home in Los Angeles. She was one of the last major stars from Hollywood's golden age.
She made her screen debut opposite Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront, an acclaimed mob drama. She won the Oscar for best supporting actress in 1955 for that role.
She later starred in Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 spy thriller North by Northwest opposite Cary Grant. Her career lasted six decades, starting with radio and TV work in the late 1940s.
It ended with the 2006 film Superman Returns, where she played Superman's adoptive mother Martha Kent. Born in 1924 in New Jersey to a Quaker family, she worked steadily through the 1950s and 1960s.
Later, she eased her workload to focus on family.
