Longford football oval scoreboard named after lifelong volunteer
Mr Williams, who maintained Longford Football Ground's playing surface for decades, is honoured with the oval's scoreboard bearing his name.
The Northern Midlands Council approved naming the scoreboard after Phil "Fuzzy" Williams in recognition of his volunteer service keeping the oval playable. Williams moved to Longford in 1969 and played for the local club's under-19s, reserves and seniors.
Since the mid-1990s, he has led the grounds committee's maintenance work. Now in his early 70s, Williams and one other volunteer manage the daily upkeep.
The council will pay for signs reflecting the new name and host a public unveiling. Williams said the work keeps him going, and he tries to maintain the ground to the best standard for everyone.
