Matt Dee died from natural causes, family confirms
The former TV lifeguard and mental health advocate died September 1. His death was from natural causes, not suicide.
Matt Dee, former Bondi Rescue star and founder of mental health platform FTW Revolution, died on September 1. Friends and family gathered at Bronte Beach on Saturday for a paddle-out memorial.
During the event, his close friend Kev Goodall clarified the cause. Kev Goodall, Dee's best friend, said Dee is believed to have died from natural causes.
Dee's father John told media the death was not suicide. This countered speculation about his work in mental health.
Goodall recalled that Dee had always wanted a big send-off if anything happened to him. Dee retired from Bondi Rescue in 2017.
He wanted to focus on mental health work. He had lost both his siblings to suicide in 2009.
