Baranduda battery facility to power 200,000 homes at peak
Victoria's $43 million Baranduda battery hub will power up to 200,000 homes during peak demand.
A battery storage hub is being built in Baranduda near Wodonga to ease Victoria's peak energy demand. The state government's State Electricity Commission invested $43 million alongside Birdwood Energy and Aware Super.
The facility will store 1.86 gigawatt-hours across up to 372 shipping container-sized battery packs. During peak evening hours, the hub can power around 200,000 homes.
Construction begins in November 2026, with opening planned for late 2028. The project will create about 150 construction jobs.
Once open, the hub will be Victoria's longest-running storage system at 4.65 hours of continuous power.
