Journalist who exposed Jones testifies at indecent assault trial

Kate McClymont testified at the trial of Alan Jones, the broadcaster she exposed in a December 2023 story that sparked the prosecution.

Kate McClymont, the Sydney Morning Herald's chief investigative reporter, testified in Alan Jones' indecent assault trial at the Downing Centre Local Court. Jones has pleaded not guilty to 19 counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching.

The alleged incidents span 2003 to 2020 and involve five younger men. McClymont's December 2023 investigation first reported the allegations publicly.

It led to a police investigation. Kate McClymont told the court she interviewed three of the alleged victims and published stories in 2023 and 2024.

During cross-examination, she denied she was motivated by profit or readership when she published her initial story. She emailed and texted Jones two days before publication seeking comment.
