Hume league great Jack O'Halloran, 74, dies after choosing family over stardom
Wangaratta and Howlong footballer who won two Morris Medals died of cancer on Monday.
Jack O'Halloran, a two-time Morris medallist, passed away aged 74 from cancer. Jack played for Howlong from age 14 and later Wangaratta, where he was named ruck-rover in the Team of the Century.
After six years at Wangaratta, he got tired of the travel between Wodonga and Wangaratta, so he joined rivals Wodonga for a few years. Jack then went home to Howlong as coach.
His brother Tom said Jack was devoted to keeping all 11 siblings connected after their parents died. Jack organised annual birthday sausage sizzles for the family for decades.
Friends and teammates remembered him as an outstanding player who never played an average game and was an even better bloke off the field.
